This is Me

My Life has been defined by adventure.

I have always loved photography.  Dad always had a film camera and he used it.  Somehow I was gifted the amazing experience of having a photography class in elementary school in Calgary that included developing film in a darkroom.  Married a woman and pulled her into many experiences that may not be seen as typical.  We spent a few years living in Germany – helping people through trips into many Eastern European Countries, Ukraine, and Russia.

Then we had 2 kids.  They were so much fun.  And a bit of work.  For a birthday, my wife bought me my first ‘real’ camera.  It was digital and had a removable lens.  It was 2006 and it was a Canon Rebel XTI.  Wonderful.  A few years later, as the children were just approaching teenage-ness, we moved onto a catamaran and traveled down the American West coast to explore the Sea of Cortez.   Absolutely beyond wonderful (for at least one of us!)  That was quite a year!

I tinker, take things apart, fix things.  We live semi-off grid on an acreage that was a special place for those kids to grow.  I have explored many pursuits like skiing, rock climbing, ice climbing, backpacking, snow camping, sailing, and more fixing.  Now I am trying to hone in on packrafting, backcountry skiing, adventure motorcycle touring, and photography.  It just feels right to have a camera in my hand or attached to my body.  One time I was almost flung off a mountain by my camera…

My wife draws me out into nature.  We hike fairly often, and it feels good on the soul.  And now she draws me deeper into the world of art, and artists
